Judge Sara Hinchey (BSc, LLB) is presently a Judge of the County Court of Victoria. She sits in the Common Law Division of the Court and is also Head of the Confiscations List at the Court.
Sara graduated from an all girls school in Ballarat to study Law/Science at Monash University. She lived at Mannix College, a co-ed college just across from the Monash Campus.
After University, Sara travelled around the United Kingdom and Europe, working in diverse jobs including managing a bookshop in Hereford UK, and working as a chalet girl and ski guiding in the Austrian Ski fields.
In 1993, Judge Sara Hinchey returned to Melbourne to complete her articles. Knowing that she wanted to go to the Bar, Sara became an Associate at the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Judge Sara Hinchey went to the Victorian Bar in 1996 and practised in diverse areas including Commercial Law, Trade Practices, White Collar Crime, Occupational Health and Safety and numerous Royal Commissions.
She was appointed as a Judge of the County Court in 2015. In December 2015, Judge Sara Hinchey was appointed as the fifth State Coroner of Victoria, and returned to her work as a County Court Judge in 2019.
